The aim of this website is to explore the African culture and technology. When Africa decided to invest heavily in technology, a conundrum was born. The older generation who we discuss on further in this website strongly disagree with the adaption of foreign technology as a means to attain sustainable development. They believe that technology will lead to the extinction of cultural norms that we hold dearly which are already strained and diluted as a result of colonialism. They instead want the current African leaders to focus on technologies that already existed in Africa long before they were discouraged by our colonial masters. These technologies that were invented by our ancestors embraced culture and promoted it. Some of these inventions became our identities and pride for example the the pyramids. Tammy Dray an author who specializes in health, travel and wellness, in her article "The Pyramids of Africa" ,Dray asserts " The pyramids of Giza, located in Egypt, are what comes to mind when you think of "Africa" and "pyramids"". Dray's remarks are an example of how these technologies and inventions have become our identity and pride. This is exactly why a certain group of stakeholders in this argument are advocating for less investment in the foreign technologies and more investment in the local technologies. Then there is the young generation, my generation the tech savvy one.We believe that the future of Africa lies in its potential to invest in foreign technologies. Africa is a continent in need with poor roads, poor health care systems, high rate of unemployment and limited access to water. All these problems can be tackled, if only we(Africans) could compromise with the older generation on the way forward with technology as a driver. Having traveled the world, My generation has seen remarkable success in some countries who were regarded as third world countries not too long ago. These countries invested heavily in technology example south Korea, china hence coming from almost nothing to becoming powerhouses in the global economy. This website will be exploring both sides of the argument and also providing a compromise that both sides could agree on. To be realistic we need both!
